Biography

Dr. Toland is an Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Health Science Program, teaching across both the undergraduate Health Science and graduate Master of Public Health (MPH) programs. With over 15 years of academic experience, she brings deep expertise in population health, behavioral and mental health, substance abuse, and human sexuality. In addition to her scholarly work, Dr. Toland has more than 17 years of professional experience spanning the pharmaceutical industry, public and community health, and mental health services. Her interdisciplinary background enriches both her teaching and research, bridging theory with real-world application.

Her research interests are wide-ranging and include mental health, substance abuse, communicable disease prevention, and broader public health issues. Through her work, Dr. Toland remains committed to advancing public health outcomes and preparing future health professionals for the complex challenges facing today's communities.

Dr. Toland’s academic expertise spans a range of interdisciplinary topics within public health and health science. Her teaching and scholarship focus on:

Population Health – Addressing health outcomes and disparities across diverse communities, with an emphasis on the social determinants of health.
Behavioral and Mental Health – Exploring the psychological, behavioral, and societal factors that impact individual and community well-being.
Substance Abuse and Prevention – Investigating the causes, consequences, and prevention strategies related to substance use and addiction.
Human Sexuality and Health Education – Promoting sexual health awareness through inclusive, evidence-based education.
Public and Community Health – Developing strategies to improve health outcomes at the community level, including outreach, advocacy, and policy development.
